A wedding in Cana.
A private getaway in Capernaum.
The temple in Jerusalem.
Three distinct revelations of Christ’s glory packed closely together in the second chapter of John. They’re written back-to-back for a reason: John wants us to understand that glory has a surprisingly broad definition.
In Cana the glory was miraculous. In Capernaum the glory was subtle and intimate. In Jerusalem it was feisty. A bar room brawl kind of glory. A flipping tables and chasing people out the door with a weapon kind of glory.
What kind of glory are you expecting? Perhaps the context is important.
If we’re expecting Jesus to show up in our religious gatherings, we perhaps ought to brace ourselves.
