The intersection of organizational health and spiritual formation

Limited Resources

L

Are holy gifts. Jesus has already done the math on whatever it is he has asked you to do, and the bottom line is clear: you’re in the red. Which sounds like really bad news. But Jesus is somehow not as shaken as you might be.

Limitations are gifts because they create occasions for obedience and miracles.

The truth is that there will never be enough: Enough money to meet all the needs. Enough food to feed all the hungry mouths. Enough time to be with all the lonely. Enough compassion to comfort all the grieving. Enough influence to bring justice to all the oppressed.

For us, to be human is to be limited. But for God, to be divine is to be Unlimited.

Philip’s math was right: “It would take more than half a year’s wages to buy enough bread for each one to have a bite.” Jesus has already done that math. When he asked Philip, “Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat,” he knew it was an impossible question. But he also knew, in the face of such limited resources, that he had no intention of buying anything.
