What You Get Out Of A Relationship

W

Depends on what you put into it. The better the relationship you have with someone, the more you will benefit from it. Your life will be richer because of the relationship; and your life will be poorer if it is lost. And hopefully, this goes both ways. Relationships are, after all, a two-way street.

Good relationships are costly, but they are worth it: Proximity. Time. Listening. Vulnerability. Trust. Patience.

So it is with God’s Spirit. Those who don’t benefit from having the Advocate by their side can’t understand. Not because he is keeping his distance, but because they are keeping theirs. Nevertheless, the invitation from Jesus regarding the Spirit is extended to everyone:

Let the Spirit live with you. Let him be within you. Draw near to him. Spend time with him. Let yourself be vulnerable. Learn to trust him. Learn to be patient with him. Then you’ll get what all the fuss is about. Not because you know him in an abstract, theoretical way, but because you are coming to know him in a personal, intimate way. Not a transaction, but a real relationship.
