Exploring the mystery of faith in ordinary life.

Go, Go, Go.

G

You can go, go go. You can stay on 24/7. You can keep working yourself to the bone. You can add another side hustle to your side hustle. You can say “yes” to one more commitment. You can add one more responsibility to your plate.

You can expect others to do the same. In fact, the more you expect non-stop effort from yourself, the more you are likely to expect it of others.

However, there is a different pattern you can choose to follow:

The divine pattern is set: Doing must be balanced out by not-doing, in the Jewish tradition called the “Sabbath Rest.” All contemplation reflects a seventh-day choice and experience, relying on grace instead of effort. Full growth implies timing and staging, acting and waiting, working and not working.

—Richard Rohr, _The Universal Christ

Rest. Pause. Stop. Silence your inner task master. Let the calls go to voicemail. Let your inbox fill up. Let the laundry and dishes pile up. Relax and be refreshed.

Give yourself a break. Give everyone around you a break. We are, after all, human beings, not human doings.

You will thank yourself. Others will thank you, too.
