Seeing God

S

People will tell you that all manner of things are impossible. Untouchable. Dangerous, even.

But faith—at its purest and most unencumbered—says, “Well, hang on a sec. Just maybe…” Faith that is more about prohibitions than possibilities is missing something.

Take the idea of seeing God, for example. Whatever that means to you, and to whatever degree. Seeing God in a beautiful bird. Seeing God in a healing miracle. Seeing God face to face.

Some people say none of this is possible. Most, in my experience, say that most of this is possible. Then there are those who say, “No one can see God face to face and live”, confidently referencing Exodus 33:20.

Sure, that verse reads rather plainly. But can you find a story in the Bible where that happened? There are far more stories of people having close encounters with God and living—really living!

Sometimes seeing God may be dangerous—let’s not be frivolous about it. But most of the time seeing God means a hearty meal.

(See Exodus 24:9-11).
