Exploring the mystery of faith in ordinary life.

On Creativity

O

We humans are inherently creative creatures. Because we bear the image of the Creator, we simply can’t help ourselves.

Someone always has a song to sing. A book to write. A scene to paint. A figure to sculpt. A screenplay to draft. A garden to plant. A building to design. A product to develop. A business to found. A line of code to engineer. A community group to form. An initiative to launch. A lesson to teach. A dish to cook. A lesson to prepare.

Do you want to create something beautiful and useful for others? Here’s some quick advice:

Learn a craft. Get some training. Become an apprentice. Go to school. Take an online course. Watch YouTube videos. Practice. Fail. Grow. Commit to the process.

Be filled with God’s Spirit. Pray. Sit in silence. Spend time in nature. Spend time in worship. Spend time in the Scriptures. Empty yourself of yourself. Be open and aware.

And all along, just make stuff. Don’t wait for perfection. Don’t wait for permission. Practice. Produce. And pray for the divine breathe to be breathed into your work.
