The Bible, admittedly, is not an easy book. You don’t have to read very far before you feel some parts push you away just as strongly as other parts pull you in.

We’d rather hear about blessings more than curses. We prefer comforting verses to cryptic ones. We like accessibilty more than inaccessibility. We are drawn more words like “love” and “mercy” than to words like “wrath” and “judgment”.

So we skip, avoid, dismiss, and edit.

Yet we grow best when we stop editing what we’re willing to hear.
