Sometimes It’s Important That A Thing Be Done Right

S

And other times it’s important that the right person does a thing.

A good leader knows the difference. A good leader can tell what’s called for in the moment. A good leader can discern the leading of the Spirit one way or the other.

There is such a thing as best practices. In any given church or organization there are “right ways” to lead a small group, lead worship, give a sermon, organize an outreach event, train leaders, engage in prayer ministry, etc. Without such articulated and agreed upon norms, it all falls apart.

Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;

Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,

W.B. Yeats

Excellence and consistency are good things until they become gods.

Sometimes a leader needs to let the right person do a thing, even if that thing won’t be done right. Doing so is an act of trusting faith not in our best practices, but in the one true God.
