For everyone going into ministry. Or anyone doing anything important, for that matter.
Because Job proposes a different kind of subversive wisdom that unsettles the common wisdom of, “Just do the right things, and everything will turn out great.” Maybe it will, maybe it won’t. Sometimes we can do all the right things and they don’t work. Sometimes we can do all the wrong things and they do work.
Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while. Thank God.
Obedience is our responsibility. Results are God’s responsibility. Faithfulness is what we bring to the table. Grace is what God brings to the table. God gives and we receive. God requires and we relinquish.
“Naked I came from my mother’s womb,
and naked I will depart.
The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away;
may the name of the Lord be praised.”
