John the Baptists, that is. Here’s what Matthew says of John:
This is he who was spoken of through the prophet Isaiah: “A voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.’ ”
Matthew 3:3
If ministry is nothing else, it’s preparing the way for Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world, to enter into people’s lives. It’s not about us getting into people’s lives. It’s not about getting people into our church or ministry. It’s not about maintaining some machine that grinds out religious widgets that we can get into customers’ hands.
It’s about raising our voices in desolate places. It’s about being the messengers sent ahead of the Message. It’s about making smooth and levels paths for Jesus to be reborn in people’s hearts.
