If Only

I

Is no way to live.

If only this or that had happened. If only I had done such and such. If only they hadn’t decided that. If only God had intervened in a certain way. If only things had turned out differently.

There’s actually very little guarantee that anything would have turned out differently under different circumstances. And there’s little use in speculation. What the past was, the past is. It’s better to spend your energy on the present, and place your hopes in the future.

“Just maybe” is a better way to live. A hope-filled “just maybe” that is dependent upon Jesus. Upon Jesus’ gracious intervention. Upon God giving Jesus whatever he asks for.

I'm a husband-father-musician-pastor trying to make a decent contribution to the world. California is the Motherland, North Carolina has my heart, Georgia is Home. These are mostly my riffs on formation, leadership, and being fully human.
