Like Father, Like Son

There is much confusion about God. Not that I really fault anyone for that. God is a confusing concept / belief / being. And we are, after all, very limited creatures attempting to understand a limited deity. As Augustine said,

“Si comprendis, non est Deus.” If you understand, what you understand isn’t God.

But just because we can’t understand all of God, doesn’t mean that we can’t understand some of God. Some is certainly possible; all is a pipe dream.

If there’s something at all that is possible to know about God, the clearest way is through Jesus as we read about him in the Gospels. What he says. What he does. Where he goes. Who he interacts with, and how and why. His way of being in the world is God’s way of being in the world. “If you knew me, you would know my Father also.” Even in the Bible, a lot of people say a lot of things about God—which is good as far as it goes—but Jesus shows us things about God.

Like Father, Like Son.
