For extraordinary purposes is the modus operandi of the kingdom. It’s Jesus’ go-to method for miracles.
Stone jars and water. Spit and mud. Wind and rain. Word and touch. Friends and family. Crowds and clothes. Bread and fish. Coins and fish. Fishermen and tax collectors. Empty fishing nets.
Yep—lots of fish! In Jesus’ day, fish were as common as hamburgers.
The older I get, the more I realize that there’s not much point in trying to be something spectacular for Jesus. He doesn’t need you or me to be special. He’s not asking for that. Learn to accept who you are, as God has made you to be. Learn to be content with life as it happens. Learn to make friends with simplicity and ordinariness.
You may very well be a plain old stone jar. Your life may be as common as hamburgers. The good news is that those are all the ordinary raw materials Jesus needs to make something extraordinary.
