This past Sunday, on Trinity Sunday, I preached a sermon that I titled The Divine Ecosystem. I’ll save you the time of listening to the podcast by telling you that I basically said this: Just as plants need light, soil, and a favorable environment, so do we thrive in the ecosystem of the Trinity.
I ended by praying over our congregation this expanded version of Paul’s trinitarian prayer in the very last verse of 2 Corinthians:
May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ shine upon you, awaken you from your sleep, resurrect you from death, and accomplish for you what you cannot do on your own.
May the love of God the Father be lavished upon you, his precious sons and daughters; may your roots grow down deep into his love that nourishes and strengthens you.
May the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, the community of Christ’s people, be the garden in which you grow; joined together not in activity but in the secret, hidden life of God himself.
Amen.
