There Are Always “Those People”

T

Whom “your people” aren’t supposed to be friendly with. You know who they are. How you identify “those people” depends on who “your people” are. It’s also wise to realize that “your people” are quite likely someone else’s “those people,” whether you realize it or not.

Avoid “those people.”

Go around the area of town where “those people” live.

Don’t talk to “those people.”

Don’t listen to “those people.”

Don’t trust “those people.”

“Those people” don’t deserve the benefit of the doubt.

Don’t let “those people” get their way.

Don’t let “those people” have a vote.

If you give “those people” an inch, they’ll take a mile.

Watch out for “those people,” because they’re only trouble.

Make sure your people are protected at all cost from “those people.”

Make sure “those people” know what “your people” really think of them.

And never, under any circumstances, should you try to help “those people.”

But then there’s Jesus. Who not only came to help “those people,” but also had the audacity to ask “those people” for help himself. Which was his sly way of beginning to erase the anti-other lines between people groups. Because in Christ there is no “your people” and “those people,” there are only “people.”
