Those Who Wait Upon God

T

But those who wait upon God get fresh strength.

They spread their wings and soar like eagles,

they run and don’t get tired,

they walk and don’t lag behind.

Isaiah 40:31

This is really good news, because waiting upon God is hard work.

It’s honestly a bit easier — at least in the short term — to get busy doing something. Going somewhere. Making something happen. Pushing envelopes and pursuing agendas.

But no — faith often involves waiting. And waiting brings it’s own kind of weariness. It can make you feel like your strength is sapped, like your feet are lead, like you can’t run another 100 yards, and like you’re just getting left behind.

The good news Isaiah wants us to hear is that God is in the business of reversing all of that.
