As the eyes of slaves look to the hand of their master,
as the eyes of a female slave look to the hand of her mistress,
so our eyes look to the Lord our God,
till he shows us his mercy.

Why do the eyes of servants look to the hands of their masters? Why do the eyes of a maid look to the hand of her mistress?
For signals.
A servant who knows his master well knows what the slightest motion of the hand means. Because a maid who knows her mistress well can read her body language. Because a good assistant knows what a quick flash of the boss’s eyes means.
Words are not always needed. Most of human communication is non-verbal.
As servants of God, our eyes look to him until he shows us…what? His mercy.
Watch for the subtle motions of mercy. Then respond.
