When Change Happens Slowly

W

We either miss it or deny it.

In a culture of on-demand everything, slowness is hardly perceived as motion at all. We are simply not conditioned to notice. Slow shifts barely register on our seisometers. It simply seems like nothing is happening.

Everything is always changing slowly all the time. Can we slow down enough to notice?

Sometimes we might notice, but we are then tempted to deny that it’s even happening. Because it’s uncomfortable, or inconvenient, or unpredictable. Slow shifts frighten us because they are often outside of our control, and we’d prefer to maintain at least the illusion of control.

Everything is changing slowly all the time. Can we hold life loosely enough to enjoy it?
